Retention is All the Same, Right? Wrong! How to Determine Proper Retention for the Modern Orthodontic Patient

Description

This program will discuss how custom designing retention for a patient will allow the patient to properly protect their results long term. We will discuss both fixed and removable retention. Hawley and clear aligner designs will both be touched upon. Material choice and design, advantages to 3D scanning and printing, how often an appliance needs to be replaced, and assets an detriments of all materials and designs will be discussed. Participants will gain a solid knowledge base to return to their office and immediately apply what they learn to their patients.

Learning Objectives:

  • Choose the bast material for a retainer based on a patient's unique and individual issues.
  • Establish a replacement protocol program so that patients replace their appliances routinely to protect their results.
  • Confidently know when it is best to use a "Dual Retention" philosophy for long term stability of the teeth.
