Patients expect all orthodontic staff to be knowledgeable about the basic concepts of orthodontic problems and their treatment. Unfortunately, this is often not the case, especially for non clinical staff. It is difficult to “market” the services of an orthodontic practice if a large percentage of the employees are unclear on the specifics of what exactly those services are and why they are needed. This lecture will present a clear, easy to understand overview of the types of problems orthodontist’s fix (Diagnosis) and the techniques they use to fix them (Treatment).
Learning Objectives:
Describe how basic orthodontic problems like crowding and overjet come to exist in a patient.
Analyze how an orthodontic problem can be a mixture of a Dental or a Skeletal problem.
Demonstrate how the tools of orthodontics (Brackets, Aligners, elastics etc) are used to solve those problems and create the final result of a great smile and healthy bite.
